The University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG) has dismissed a statement purporting that its two weeks strike action has been called off.

A fake statement circulating on social media issued on Friday, August 2021, said the strike was suspended after three days of negotiations with the government which ended on a stalemate.

It added that following a series of meetings conducted across the member campus, the strike action will hold after their various vacations if the government still refuses to honour their request.

But the National President of UTAG, Prof. Charles Marfo in an interview described the statement as fake urging the public to treat it with the contempt that it deserves.

Members of the UTAG have been on strike since the beginning of August to demand a restoration of the conditions of service agreed upon in 2012 which they said was far better than the current situation.

The strike action has affected academic and some non-academic work at the various tertiary campuses.
