‘If EC changes Ablekuma North results in NPP’s favor, there will be chaos’ – NDC supporter vows

Some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ablekuma North have threatened unrest if the Electoral Commission (EC) overturns the constituency’s parliamentary election results in favor of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie.

According to the aggrieved supporters, any attempt by the EC to deny their candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, her victory will be fiercely resisted.

Speaking to Channel One TV on January 17, 2025, one supporter stated that the EC had already announced their candidate as the winner and warned against any attempts to alter the outcome.

“If they try to cheat us, there will be chaos, and we won’t allow it. There will be unending fights in Ablekuma North. We have already won, and we won’t let them cheat us. They have declared us winners twice, and Ewurabena Aubynn is the winner,” he stated.

He also called on the party leadership to remain vigilant and take decisive action.

“I want to tell the leadership of the NDC to stand firm and not allow any rigging. They have brought fake pink sheets, and we have seen them,” he added.

The warning comes after some NDC supporters besieged the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana on Friday, January 17, 2025.

The group gathered at the EC office ahead of the 7th attempt to re-collate the parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Visuals captured by Accra-based TV3 showed parts of the EC office destroyed. Window levers were broken, and chairs, tables, and police barricades in the collation room were scattered.

According to the Ablekuma North Constituency NDC Organiser, Mr. Musah, the destruction resulted from clashes between NDC and NPP supporters.

He explained that he and other NDC executives had gone to the EC office following an invitation for the re-collation exercise.

However, upon arrival, they discovered that the collation room was filled with alleged NPP thugs.

Musah claimed that the NDC team then stepped out to call for reinforcement before returning to confront the NPP supporters inside the collation center.
