Ibrahim Mahama Gifts Brand-New Car to Boxing Legend Azumah Nelson

In a truly heartwarming gesture, Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has surprised boxing icon Azumah Nelson with a brand-new car, an act of appreciation for the boxing legend’s immense contributions.
The surprise unfolded during a visit to Ibrahim Mahama’s office by Sharaf Mahama, son of former President John Dramani Mahama and CEO of Legacy Rise Sports, alongside British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua. Joshua was a special guest at the “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event, organized by Legacy Rise Sports at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Friday, June 13, 2025.
Earlier in the day, the group had paid a courtesy visit to President John Mahama at the Jubilee House before heading to Ibrahim Mahama’s office. Their visit was primarily to thank him for his substantial support during the boxing event.
Ibrahim Mahama stated that the gesture was a way to honor and celebrate the enduring legacy of Azumah Nelson, who is widely regarded as Africa’s greatest boxer. Those present were visibly moved as Mahama handed over the keys to a brand-new Toyota Fortuner, along with an undisclosed sum of money. This recognition was not just for Nelson’s unparalleled achievements in the ring but also for his ongoing commitment to Ghanaian sports and youth development.
A visibly touched Azumah Nelson expressed profound gratitude, remarking that the gesture served as a powerful reminder that true greatness is indeed remembered and celebrated. “I am grateful to you, Ibrahim Mahama, and to Sharaf Mahama for this big surprise. I didn’t expect this at all. I am just supporting my son Sharaf, who has shown great interest in promoting the sport I love,” Nelson shared.
The ceremony was attended by members of Anthony Joshua’s team, close friends of Ibrahim Mahama, Yaw Sakyi Afari (Head of RITE Sports Services and Manager of Azumah Nelson), businessman Henry Quarshie (a member of Azumah’s team), and several members of the Legacy Rise Sports team.
Ibrahim Mahama is a prominent Ghanaian businessman, known as the founder of Engineers and Planners and Dzata Cement Limited.
