Former Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi has shared some insights on the controversies surrounding Victor Osimhen’s transfer.

Osimhen, who was expected to join either Chelsea or Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, saw his potential move collapse in dramatic fashion on transfer deadline day.

The Saudi Pro League side walked away from the deal after Napoli demanded an extra fee beyond what was initially agreed.

Chelsea, on the other hand, failed to secure Osimhen’s signature due to disagreements over his personal terms.

In a surprise twist, the 25-year-old joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan last week with no option or obligation to buy.

Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray has set the stage for another chapter in the rivalry between José Mourinho and the Nigerian international.

After their encounters in Serie A, in matches between Roma and Napoli, Turkish football fans will now witness another showdown between the veteran Portuguese manager and the former Capocannoniere winner in the fierce Intercontinental Derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

Speaking on his podcast show, former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi, who was a key figure in the efforts to get Osimhen to Stamford Bridge, disclosed that Jose Mourinho will not be happy with the move.

“Yeah, Victor Osimhen going to Galatasaray makes a big difference and I’m sure Jose [Mourinho] is not going to be happy with that.

“He [Victor Osimhen] is somebody who is going to score goals. He will do exactly what he knows best, which is to score goals. I am really pleased with the move. You know he has to play football, which is something I told him after the transfer window closed.”

Speaking on influencing Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray, Mikel Obi added that he had no hand in the player’s transfer to Galatasaray.

“I’m kidding, I had nothing to do with that [Osimhen joining Galatasaray]. There were a few conversations I had about his age, but in the end, Victor wants what’s best for him.”
