Kennedy Agyapong stated that, contrary to the perception, he decided to leave the floor of Parliament because of his commitment to peace.
Kennedy Agyapong stated that he was not afraid of the conduct of the NDC MPs but rather took a decision that he believes will help restore some peace and unity to the house.
“I entered the chamber and I saw NDC MPs occupying NPP seats, so I just had to leave. I told the leadership that we should go back. Andy Appiah Kubi is another lawyer of mine, but we nearly fought over there. That’s the game of politics, but we don’t want you to fan it. I wasn’t running away; I wanted peace. Running away is not in my vocabulary,” he said.
He also emphasised that the country’s peace is more important than which candidate assumes power, urging Ghanaians not to compromise the existing peace.
“I personally don’t care who wins as long as we have a peaceful country where you can breathe,” he said.
Speaking about the standoff in parliament over the Majority seats, Kennedy Agyapong warned that the ongoing events could threaten the country’s democracy if not resolved.
He expressed his aversion to chaotic situations that could lead to violence and voiced his disappointment over the recent parliamentary standoff between the NDC and NPP caucuses.
“This is why I don’t preach for war. Otherwise, I would have encouraged what’s going on, but what will be the fate of the country?” he added.
