I can’t speak on Australia Visa Scandal – Asiamah to Parliament

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, on Thursday, failed to answer questions from Mion MP Mohammed Abdul-Aziz who sought to find out when the Australian Commonwealth Games visa racketeering scandal report will be made public.

In an answer to the question on the floor, Mr Asiamah stated his inability to answer the question given a referral on the same matter to the national security for investigations.

The Australia Visa Scandal arose after 50 people who paraded themselves as journalists were refused entry into Australia for the Olympic Games by their Immigration Service after sufficiently failing them.

Former deputy Youth and Sports Minister Pius Hadzide together with other government officials were suspended over the visa scandal in 2018.

They were, however, reinstated after investigations. Attempts to get the minister to answer the question given the fact that the matter is not before any court was blocked by Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye.

“Mr Speaker, this matter was referred to the Ministry of National security for investigations, I will therefore not be in a position to speak further on it,” Mr Asiamah said.
