I apologise to my family, colleagues and the people of Ghana – Nyantakyi
The former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has issued an apology to President Akufo-Addo and vice President Mahamudu Bawumia over some comments he made in the undercover documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas which focused on corruption in Ghana football.
He also begged for clemency from his family, colleagues and the people of Ghana who he admits he has let down.
The embattled lawyer in a statement announcing his resignation as the head of Ghana’s football body rendered an unqualified apology to the President and his vice for making comments that demeaned their offices and caused them public embarrassment.
“I hereby apologise unreservedly to the father of the Nation, H.E. Nana Akufo Addo, H.E. the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Hon. Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State for indiscretion in associating them with the private conversations on the video.”
“I wish to apologise to my family, work colleagues, friends, associates and the people of Ghana for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused them “I wish to clarify that at no time prior to or subsequent to any deliberations on the video did I consult, contact or inform any Government official about discussions on the video. I take sole and personal responsibility for the proceedings on the video.”
Kwesi Nyantakyi on Friday, 8 June, 2018 announced his resignation as the GFA President.
The decision to resign was reached after a marathon meeting of the Executive Committee of the FA on Friday June 8.
Nyantakyi’s resignation brings to an end his 13-year tenure at the helm of Ghana football.
