How Charlotte Osei’s signature on Referendum accreditation in Oti Region sparked confusion

Accreditation of the Electoral Commission (EC) signed by former Chairperson Madam Charlotte Osei popped up during last Thursday’s referendum in the proposed Oti Region sparking uproar, MyNewsGh.com has gathered.

The polling agent for a ‘No Vote’ at the SCMP shed polling station at Akpafu Odomi in the just ended Oti Region referendum was  given one of such  accreditations with the signature of  former Chairperson with  the inscription “2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections”.

The agent Mr Seth Agbeme Amankwa who was infuriated with the attempt by the North Dayi MCE to sack him from the polling station over the development refused to move out of the polling station arguing he was served by the EC on the orders of one Mr Tetteh an official from Accra who visited their centre after their complaints.

Residents of Akapfu Odomi boycotted the referendum with the petition that, they never requested to be a part of the proposed Oti region.

Akapfu Odomi is under the Hohoe municipality. Out of 790 registered voters on the register only a handful voted on the day but they believe the entire process was a sham to bulldoze their way through explaining how he came by the accreditation.

“The EC Hohoe office issued this accreditation (2016 EC with the signature of Charlotte Osei) to us and called us in the last hour to come for the new one which we asked that it should be given to the EC officials designated to our centre for us to receive but they refused”, he revealed.

On why members of community stayed off the exercise he explained “We boycotted the process to allow posterity to be our greatest judge. They will be the same people to say after we claim we didn’t want to be part of Oti region, we voted after all. We don’t want to be part of Oti. We want to be part of Hohoe” Mr Seth Amankwa said in an interview with MyNewsGh.com’ Fred Duhoe.

Akpafu Odomi prior to the exercise was declared security flash zone the which saw the deployment of over five policemen to that polling station alone with a patrol team at the main junction as back up.
