How can Mahama concentrate when people are already fighting over flagbearership? – Asiedu Nketiah fumes

The National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has expressed disapproval over early jostling for the party’s 2028 flagbearer position, barely three months into President John Dramani Mahama’s term.

According to him, it is inappropriate for individuals to begin fighting for the flagbearership position so soon after the party assumed power.

He warned that such actions could distract the president and undermine the party’s success.

“If you are President Mahama, it will be difficult for you to concentrate under such circumstances, and it would be very dangerous for the party to engage in such premature competition,” he said in an interview on Accra FM on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

He emphasized that the fate of the party is closely tied to President Mahama’s performance, and any failure on his part would seriously affect the NDC’s chances in future elections.

“If you are President Mahama, who is leading the country, and in less than three months people are already fighting over flagbearership, how can you concentrate on your work?” he questioned.

“If we don’t take care and President Mahama fails, even if the flagbearer position is imposed on someone, the party might reject it.”

“If we don’t take care and such competition begins now, it will become very dangerous.” Asiedu Nketiah said.
