How a mentally challenged lady was impregnated by unknown man and gave birth to twins

Ordinarily, welcoming twin babies into a family for many people is a pleasant experience, as the twins are believed to carry lots of blessings.

However, that cannot be said of the family of a 19-year-old mentally challenged lady who was taken advantage of and has given birth to twins in one of the towns in the Central Region.

The grandmother of the victim of rape, who already struggles to make ends meet to take care of her orphaned granddaughter has had her predicament compounded as she’s had to take care of the new additions to the family because the man who impregnated Esi is unknown, and the victim cannot disclose his identity because she does not speak.

In a video shared on social media, the grandmother recounted how Esi the victim got pregnant in an interview with Twins Diaries.

“I went to the farm one day, upon my return, I searched for my granddaughter, but she was nowhere to be found. She returned later after a while. After some few weeks, I realised that she is one month pregnant. My granddaughter is mentally challenged, she does not speak and so has not been able to point out the one who impregnated her.

“Even when it was only me and my granddaughter, life was tough for us, and now I am struggling much more to take care of the family, especially the twin babies. My granddaughter’s parents are dead; I am also sick, so we need help to take care of these twins. They cry throughout the night as we are unable to feed them. Common diapers we can’t buy for the kids. We are helpless now, and we need members of the public to support us. Have mercy on us, because we don’t have any help,” a sobbing old woman said.

It further emerged that the twin babies have never been breastfed before, and they cannot also afford cans of baby food. This has led to the babies growing lean as the days pass by.

The saddest part of the story is that the building they live in with the babies is dilapidated making it a death trap and posing a high risk of danger. There’s no electricity connection, and there’s stench emanating from the room due to poor ventilation and it’s a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
