How a Ghanaian producer bagged 4 nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards

Ghanaian music producer Roland Banful, popularly known as GuiltyBeatz, is celebrating the nomination of four projects he worked on for the 2025 Grammy Awards.

In a post on social media, GuiltyBeatz shared the exciting news, highlighting the nominations for Best Global Music Album: “Born in the Wild” by Tems; Best African Music Performance: “Love Me Jeje” by Tems; Best R&B Song: “Burning” by GuiltyBeatz and Tems; and Best Progressive R&B Album: “Crash” by Kehlani

He captioned his post, “4 MORE NOMINATIONS handshake ALL GLORY TO GOD!!”

GuiltyBeatz is no stranger to the Grammy scene.

He was part of the production team for Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” album, which won four awards at the 65th Grammy Awards.

He was also a nominee in the Album of the Year category at the 2023 Grammys for producing the song “Move” on the same album.

Had Beyoncé won Album of the Year, GuiltyBeatz would have been a winner in that category.

The Grammy criteria for Album of the Year include all credited artistes, songwriters of new material, producers, recording engineers, mixers, and mastering engineers.

This can sometimes lead to confusion about who is officially nominated, as a mere feature on a nominee’s song or album does not automatically make one a nominee.

There have been instances where some Ghanaian artistes claimed Grammy nominations without meeting the criteria.

According to Grammy rules, the award for Album of the Year goes to the artiste, producer, and engineer/mixer, provided they worked on more than 50% of the album’s playing time. Those who worked on less than 50% can apply for a Winners Certificate.

In 2019, GuiltyBeatz produced three songs on Beyoncé’s “Lion King: The Gift” album: “Already” featuring Shatta Wale, “Keys to The Kingdom” featuring Tiwa Savage and Mr. Eazi, and “Find Your Way Back (Circle of Life).”

These contributions also earned him Grammy nominations in 2020.

Born in Palermo, Italy, GuiltyBeatz is a renowned Ghanaian DJ and record producer known for hits like “Bad Girl” by Jesse Jagz featuring Wizkid, “Sample You” by Mr. Eazi, and “Akwaaba” featuring Mr. Eazi, Pappy Kojo, and Patapaa.
