How 3 MoMo vendors brutally killed in Kumasi

The MoMo venture, which has seen significant growth and high patronage in the country, appears to have also attracted the attention of criminals.

These individuals are now exploiting the business as a source of wealth by robbing Mobile Money operators, drawn to the substantial sums of money they handle on a daily basis.

These attacks have instilled fear in potential individuals considering entering the business and have caused anxiety among current operators.

Reports say that many of these operators are now closing their shops early in order to avoid encounters with criminals.

The year 2025 alone has recorded a number of robbery attacks and fatalities of MoMo operators.

Below are some of the cases that have been reported in the media within the period:

Kwadaso murder

A 25-year-old Mobile Money vendor known as Junior was found murdered in his room at the Kwadaso Onion Market in Kumasi.

His assailants brutally killed him by slitting his throat with a weapon suspected to be a cutlass or a similar sharp object.

They also tied his hands and legs to the bed and sealed his mouth with duct tape.

The tragic incident, believed to have occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the community.

The robbers are reported to have bolted with a significant amount of money.

Krofrom

A 27-year-old MoMo vendor, Patricia Nimako, also met her untimely death in February when she was robbed, shot, and killed by unknown assailants at her shop.

The robbers bolted with GH¢10,000 and some mobile phones.

Manso-Asamang

Another victim of robbery, a 33-year-old Mobile Money vendor, was tragically murdered by robbers at Manso-Asamang.

The deceased, Augustine Mensah, was attacked in February while returning home from work after completing a transaction at a customer’s house.

The victim was shot by the robbers but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police investigations into these deaths have since been initiated to look into these isolated incidents.

Attempts to reach the public relations departments of the Ghana Police Service for responses on these cases have been unsuccessful so far.
