He told me he wouldn’t choose me over his family – Majeed Waris’ ex-wife reveals

Habiba Sinare, the ex-wife of Black Stars striker Majeed Waris, has shared some reasons behind their marriage’s breakdown.

She explained that Waris consistently prioritized his family over their marriage, which deeply troubled her as his wife.

When she confronted him about this, he told her that he would always choose his family over her, causing her significant emotional pain.

Habiba noted in an interview shared by MzGee on September 2024 that this statement deeply hurt her and contributed to the collapse of their marriage, despite having a child together.

“I always say that my child was meant to come into the world. He asked me, ‘Why won’t you come back?’ I told him, ‘I’m done. There’s nothing left. I don’t feel anything for you anymore.’ When I was leaving, he said he wouldn’t choose me over his family. That hurt me deeply.

“That sentence still echoes in my life. When he said that, I thought, ‘Wow, I wasn’t family after all.’ When you’re angry, you can say things that go too far. Sometimes you don’t mean them, but words are powerful. I’m someone who takes words seriously,” she said in a video shared by MzGee on Facebook.

Waris and Habiba tied the knot in 2017 but divorced after just sixteen months and reports suggested that the former Porto striker was denied access to his son by the wife.

There were also reports that Waris’ ex-wife hid herself from her husband for some time which caused controversies leading to the divorce.

Habiba Sinare is the daughter of Alhaji Sinare, former NDC Member of Parliament for Central Ayawaso who has served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and a niece to celebrated actress Kalsoum Sinare.
