Gospel singer Celestine Donkor has praised famous retired boxer Azumah Nelson for paying for her secondary education on Azumah Nelson’s 66th birthday.
The singer revealed that without the prompt intervention of the benevolent boxer, she would not have been able to pursue her secondary (senior high school) education.
“A glorious birthday to the man who gave me secondary education. My family at that time had no idea how my secondary education would be funded, except for this great man. Happy birthday, Azumah Zoom Nelson. I thank God for your life,” she wrote on social media.
Azumah Nelson, a former World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight and super-featherweight champion is widely considered one of Africa’s greatest boxers.
Born in Accra, he had an impressive amateur boxing career, winning many titles.
When he turned professional, he won the WBC featherweight world title in 1984, generating worldwide attention for himself and Ghana.
He continued to have an illustrious career in professional boxing before he retired.
