Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York after being convicted of sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006.
The 74-year-old was sentenced on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, by a Manhattan judge following a retrial that resulted in his conviction on a first-degree criminal sexual act charge involving Haley.
The latest sentence follows a lengthy legal battle surrounding Weinstein’s original New York conviction. He was initially sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020 after being convicted of sexually assaulting Haley and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann.
However, New York’s highest court overturned that conviction in 2024 and ordered a new trial, finding that the original proceedings had been unfairly prejudiced by the admission of testimony concerning allegations that were not part of the charges before the jury.
During the retrial in 2025, Weinstein was again convicted in connection with the assault of Haley. Jurors acquitted him of a separate sexual-assault charge involving former model Kaja Sokola but were unable to reach a verdict on the rape allegation involving Mann.
A subsequent retrial on the Mann allegation ended without a verdict in May 2026. Prosecutors later dropped that charge after Mann indicated that she did not want to testify in another trial.
Before the latest sentencing, prosecutors had requested a 20-year prison term. Weinstein’s defence lawyers had argued for a shorter sentence, pointing to his age and health problems.
Speaking in court, Weinstein apologised for the pain caused by his conduct while continuing to maintain his innocence regarding the criminal allegations. His representative later said he intended to challenge both the conviction and the sentence through the appeals process.
Judge Curtis Farber, who imposed the sentence, said Weinstein had once been a highly influential figure in the film industry but had damaged that legacy through his actions.
Haley also addressed the court during the sentencing proceedings, describing the lasting impact the assault had on her life. She later said she considered the 15-year sentence fair.
Weinstein’s case has remained closely associated with the #MeToo movement, which gained worldwide attention after numerous women publicly accused him of sexual misconduct beginning in 2017.
The former producer, who was once among Hollywood’s most powerful figures, has denied allegations of non-consensual sexual conduct.
Weinstein is also facing separate legal proceedings in California. He was convicted there in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and received a 16-year sentence. A California appeals court upheld the convictions in 2026 but ordered that he be resentenced.
His latest 15-year New York sentence therefore adds another chapter to a legal case that has involved multiple trials, appeals and convictions across two US states.
