GWR: Man walks from Techiman to Accra in 4-day ‘Walk-a-thon’ attempt

Seidu Rafiwu, a young man aiming for the Guinness World Records title for the longest distance covered by walking on foot, has successfully completed his attempt after 96 hours.

The walk-a-thon, which began in Techiman in the Bono East Region on April 26, 2024, saw Seidu Rafiwu walk 383 kilometres to Accra within 96 hours.

His journey ended at the Independence Square on April 30, potentially surpassing the previous record of 228.930 kilometres set in 1976 by Jesse Casteneda from the USA.

Despite rumours of Rafiwu collapsing from exhaustion, he clarified that the circulated video was from a routine recovery session.

His medical team provided massages during breaks to mitigate any physical stress.

Upon completion, Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah rewarded Seidu Rafiwu with an amount of GH₵10,000 for his remarkable record attempt.

Seidu Rafiwu joins the growing list of Ghanaians who have attempted to break a Guinness World Record since December 2023.

On April 26, the World Records Office announced that Abubakar Tahiru, a 29-year-old Ghanaian student studying in the US, had broken the world record for most trees hugged in one hour.

He hugged 1,123 trees in just one hour.

However, no Ghanaian based in the country has been awarded a world record yet.
