Gunmen exchange fire with Police; one officer injured
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers Tuesday dawn clash with Police and Military personnel after attacking traders on the Otorkpolu to Odumase highway in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern region.
Starr News has gathered that a Police officer was shot during the exchange of gunfire between the police and robbers.
Reports indicate that the armed men managed to overpower the military personnel and took away their rifles.
A reinforcement team of heavily armed military personnel was subsequently dispatched from Michel Camp to comb the area and pursue the armed men.
According to Starr FM’s Eastern regional correspondent, Kojo Ansah, after hours of the operation in the bush, two of the gunmen were arrested and four weapons including two of the military rifle, AK47 and a locally manufactured gun were retrieved.
Currently, the military is still in the Odumase Krobo community searching for the remaining gunmen.
The injured police officer is receiving treatment at a local hospital in the area.
Both the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters and the Odumase Police have declined comment on the incident.
