Unidentified gunmen attacked a local election centre in the Obeagu community in the Enugu state of Nigeria.

The gunmen, about 10 in number on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, forcibly entered the polling units and began shooting sporadically.

Their act scared voters, election officials, election observers, and journalists away.

According to a journalist who saw the attack, the gunmen also attacked the Enugu State Broadcasting Service bus that was picking journalists up to polling units.

The chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Mike Ajogwu confirmed the incident.

“I have sent some top commissioners and staff of the commission to go and find out what really happened and get back to me.

“It will largely depend on the feedback from those I have mandated to visit the ward,” he said.
