Gunmen attack commercial vehicle, one killed

 

Gunmen suspected to be robbers Thursday dawn attacked a commercial vehicle with registration Number AS 7300-16 at Akyem Anyinasin, a community in the Eastern region along the Accra-Kumasi highway killing one person.

The deceased, 35-year-old Ato Kwamina, a driver’s mate was shot dead by the gunmen during the attack. His body has been deposited at the Suhum government Hospital Morgue.

Police personnel from the Kibi Division dispatched to the scene retrieved four empty shells of AK 47 rifle and one pistol ammunition.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Sergeant Francis Gomado confirmed the incident to Starr News adding that no arrest has been made but investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, some residents in Akyem Anyinasin say, the area has recorded alarming rate of robbery incidents.

According to them, many cars have been attacked particularly along the Anyinasin to Akyem Tafo road making it unsafe for commuters to ply the road at night.

They are therefore calling for police patrols on the road.
