graduates schooled on climate change under NBU project
Facilitators of No Business as Usual Project NBU have done it again. They have this time taken scores of youth of Asokore Manpong Municipality through a day’s sensitization program on climate change.
Number of youth within the municipality who registered their presence to partake in the event were schooled on factors that contribute to climate change, its negative effect on nature and avoidable practices necessary to reduce global warming to the nearest minimum.
The colourful event turned out more interactive and consultative as facilitators solicited the views of attendees vis-a-vis how to curb the menace (climate change).
Attendees as part of the event were made to act as world leaders negotiating a climate deal and were in the process empowered and motivated to take action and overcome misconception about climate change.
Speaking to this medium on the sidelines of the program, Mr Desmond Alugnoa of Green Africa Youth Organization underscored the global status quo of climate change and for that matter global warming as a great worry which calls for an effective implementation of policies from governing authorities.
Human activities including deforestation, mining, industrial and vehicular emission of carbon plus other disturbing factors contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer and climate change should be tackled squarely by government through the ratification of all policies concerning climate change.
Touching on deforestation, Desmond Alugnoa underlined its prevalence as a great threat considering citizens’ over reliance on logs for charcoal and fire wood.
Government he advised should introduce new technologies for energy generation as a way of conserving forest reserves in Ghana.
NBU project manager Mr Daniel Okity Boamah underscored the objective of the program as the provision of an opportunity for youth of Asokore Manpong Municipality to appreciate the climate change in the area and to provide a forum for officials of Environmental Sanitation Department to enlighten attendees on their activities towards mitigating climate change issues as well as how they can access their services.
The event targeted all graduates between the ages of 18-35 within the municipality and beyond.
