The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has disclosed that seven out of the nine forest reserves that were completely taken over by illegal miners have been successfully reclaimed.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the minister stated that a joint security taskforce, comprising the military, police, and the Forestry Commission’s rapid response team, embarked on sustained operations to reclaim the forest reserves.
“The operations led to the confiscation of at least 60 excavators. I’m proud to tell you, with the cooperation of the security agencies and the military, we have taken back seven of these nine forests, and we are working very hard to ensure that the remaining two are fully reclaimed,” he stated.
He further stressed the need for the public to join the fight against illegal mining activities,AE popularly known as galamsey.
