GoldStars and Kotoko secure $100k each for Africa campaigns

Ghanaian clubs Bibiani GoldStars and Asante Kotoko are set to receive $100,000 each from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after securing qualification to participate in the upcoming CAF inter-club competitions.

GoldStars, who were crowned champions of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, will represent the country in the CAF Champions League.

Asante Kotoko, winners of the MTN FA Cup, will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe announced at a press conference in Morocco—held ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations—that the participation bonus for clubs has been doubled from $50,000 to $100,000 for the new season.

This financial support is expected to boost the preparations of both clubs ahead of the start of the continental competitions in September.

The first round of matches will take place over the weekend of September 19–21, with the official draw for the preliminary round set to be conducted in the coming weeks.

As part of their buildup to the continental campaign, GoldStars and Kotoko will battle in the Champion of Champions clash on August 31.

Kotoko is also scheduled to travel to South Africa for a high-profile Toyota Cup match against Kaizer Chiefs following their recent President’s Cup triumph.
