Gold discovered in seven districts of Upper East Region – Minister

The Upper East Region has discovered gold and other mineral deposits in several local villages.

Approximately seven out of the fifteen District Assemblies and Municipalities have reported gold deposits.

Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga made this announcement during a press conference on Saturday, March 29, at the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site.

According to the minister, constructing the Bolgatanga Airport will facilitate the transportation of mining goods across the country for miners and gold buyers.

However, he urged stakeholders to support the region in establishing the airport.

“This region, all of a sudden, has discovered mineral deposits. Out of the 15 Municipal and District Assemblies, about seven have these deposits. And if they have these deposits, it means there is business to be done.

“When they engage in mining, they will need faster means to transport their gold to the national level without the risk of armed robbery.

“There is a need for us to expedite efforts and improve infrastructure. Upper East is a gateway to Burkina Faso and Togo, and our airport will be highly lucrative,” citinewsroom.com quoted him as saying.
