Ghanaians will forget about AFCON, if you win the two games – John Mahama to Black Stars

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Black Stars to win back the trust of Ghanaians with their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

The president made this remark when he paid a visit to the team during their Wednesday, March 19, training at the Accra Sports Stadium.

While addressing the players, he encouraged them to make amends for the 2025 AFCON disappointment by winning their upcoming two games.

“If you win these two games, I’m sure Ghanaians will be ready to put the disappointment of AFCON behind them and rally behind you,” he said.

The Black Stars will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign with matches against Chad and Madagascar on matchdays 5 and 6 of the qualifying series.

This will be the team’s first set of games after a disastrous 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign that saw them finish bottom of Group F.

Ghana is third in the standings with 9 points after winning three of their first four games in the qualifiers.

They will host Chad, who are bottom of the table, in Accra on Friday, March 21, before travelling to Morocco to take on Madagascar, the current group leaders, on March 24, 2025.
