Ghanaians drowning in corruption under Akufo-Addo – MP cries

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) does far better in fighting corruption than the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Member of Parliament (MP) for Obom Domeabra has said.

Madam Sophia Karen Akuoku, claimed Ghanaians are drowning in corruption under the ‘supposed’ incorruptible President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She made the comment on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem while discussing a Corruption Watch undercover investigation which exposed police officers who take money before releasing suspects on bail. The investigation was led by Francisca Emefa Enchill.

The officers caught on tape justified why they monetised the process of granting suspects bail.

But, Madam Akuoku on Dwaso Nsem Friday opined that, the police officers are not to blame for the rot in the system.

She explained that, the system is rotten from the top and accused President Akufo-Addo of scheming to always exonerate his alleged corrupt officials.

According to the MP, “a true test of fighting corruption is holding your own accountable when they go wrong but the President has failed this test.”

She cited how the NPP, while in opposition, vilified the NDC of swimming in corruption just to win power and is now doing worse in government.

She charged the government to stop the rhetoric and put in place measures to fight corruption in the country.
