Ghanaian software engineer recruited by Apple after winning local competition

Faith Sobe Cyril, winner of the Ghanaian Sharks Quiz season 3 and a recent graduate of Academic City University College, has secured a position as a Software Engineer at Apple in London, UK.

Cyril, who graduated with first-class honors from Academic City College in Ghana, has consistently demonstrated academic excellence.

His success is no surprise to those who witnessed him emerge as the overall best student in the Sharks Quiz competition during his time at Legon Presbyterian Boys Secondary School.

According to a report by Business Ghana, Cyril has been accepted into Apple’s Evolve program, a rigorous two-year rotational initiative designed to immerse participants in various aspects of the company.

He will work with three distinct teams, contributing to innovative projects and gaining valuable experience in each rotation.

Cyril, who achieved straight A’s in his final national high school exams in Ghana in 2020, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity and his ambition to make a lasting impact at Apple.

“I am excited to be joining Apple and eager to learn from experienced engineers while making a meaningful impact on people’s lives across the globe,” he told Business Ghana.

Cyril also reflected on the demanding application process that led to this opportunity.

“I began by submitting my application through Apple’s careers website. The selection process was rigorous, starting with an essay round, followed by a technical interview, and then three consecutive panel interviews—two technical and one behavioral. A successful behavioral interview ultimately led to the offer,” he explained.

He expressed gratitude for the education he received at Academic City, crediting it with providing the skills necessary for his current success.

“My time at Academic City equipped me with the ability to juggle various academic and non-academic commitments, preparing me well for the challenges of the Evolve program,” Cyril said.

As Cyril embarks on his journey in software engineering, he remains focused on growth, stating that Apple offers the ideal environment for his development.

“Apple provides a dynamic atmosphere with challenging projects and ample opportunities for growth, which will enable me to develop the skills needed to achieve my long-term career goals,” he said.

Cyril’s achievements have set a powerful example for young, brilliant students in Ghana, inspiring them to pursue excellence through academic dedication.
