Frank Elinam Cobbinah, commonly known by his stage name, Atumpan a Ghanaian afrobeats and dancehall singer has described Ghanaian musicians as a bunch of jokers.
He disclosed to DJ Nyaami of SVTV Africa in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com that Ghanaian musicians are short-sighted and fail to see the long-term and its benefits they can reap from.
“We have forgotten that other people are watching what we do. From bloggers, artistes, DJs, radio presenters and producers. We only think of Ghana. When was the last time you saw that a Nigerian musician is being bashed online”, he asked.
Atumpan bemoaned the practice where Ghanaians are quick to show the flaws of musicians indicating that music is a multi-million business and that it is the reason a few people make money from music in Ghana.
He advised that Ghana should cut of mediocrity in the industry stating that the best hits of Ghana elsewhere are demos as a result of the failure of musicians to put a lot of efforts in it and make it compete favourably with others on the international scene.
“Everything is about planning. A few people are making money in music in Ghana because there are a lot of middlemen. We should cut out mediocrity and invest a lot into our music to churn out good songs. The biggest hit in Ghana is a demo somewhere because we have failed to take time and churn out good songs,” he disclosed.
