Ghanaian Cyclist Sadat Habib Reaches where the Equator divides the Northern & Southern Hemispheres
Ghanaian cyclist Sadat Habib is continuing his remarkable journey through Africa on two wheels, breaking barriers and turning his cycling adventure into an opportunity to explore places and geographical wonders that many people only encounter in textbooks.
As part of his bicycle journey towards Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of the Congo, Habib passed through Makoua, a town located near the Equator. For the Ghanaian cyclist, the stop was more than just another point on his route.
It was an opportunity to experience, in person, one of the geographical concepts he first learned about in Junior High School.
“Welcome to Makoua, where the world is divided into two hemispheres by the Equator,” Habib said while documenting his experience.
Standing at a location where the Equator passes, Habib reflected on how extraordinary it was to move from simply reading about the imaginary line in school textbooks to physically experiencing its significance during his bicycle journey.
For someone travelling across countries by bicycle, such moments offer an entirely different perspective on geography. What might appear as an ordinary line on a map becomes a real destination with cultural, historical and geographical significance.
Habib said it was important for him to pass through Makoua as he continued his journey to Brazzaville, describing the experience of being at the Equator as a rare and memorable one.
“I learned this in JHS, so to see it personally is so rare and I’m happy to be here today,” he said.
His journey is not only about covering long distances or setting cycling records. Through his travels, Habib is also documenting places, people and experiences that many people may never have the opportunity to encounter themselves.
The cyclist sees his adventure as a way of bringing some of the world’s fascinating geographical realities closer to his audience.
“As I’m breaking records, I’m also showing you some facts that only exist in textbooks,” he said.
His journey through the Republic of the Congo is therefore becoming both a personal challenge and an educational adventure. Every stop offers an opportunity to learn something new about Africa, its geography and the communities that inhabit the continent.
The journey also demonstrates the possibilities that come with exploring Africa by bicycle. Instead of simply passing through countries, Habib is taking time to interact with his surroundings and highlight unique features along his route.
From Ghana to the Republic of the Congo and onward to Brazzaville, his bicycle journey continues to attract attention as he pushes himself beyond familiar borders.
For Habib, the road is not simply about reaching the next destination. It is about experiencing the journey, sharing knowledge and inspiring others to discover the world beyond the pages of their textbooks.
“Ride with me because there’s enough we all can learn together,” he told his followers.
