The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America, Nancy Pelosi has predicted that Ghana-America relationship will continue to last as long as both countries continue to exist.

Ms Pelosi who is leading a congressional delegation for a four-day state visit to the country said this at a state dinner held in her honour over the weekend.

Ms Pelosi also urged Ghana to continue to be a shining example of a stable and peaceful democracy in Africa.

She said: “Ghana-America relationship will endure as far as the two countries exist. it will endure because the Ghanaian-Americans have contributed so much to the vitality of America’s sense of community and values.

“From the standpoint of our values of democracy, Ghana being a leader in democracy and being exporter of democracy ad exporter of security, we are united by our history, the history we are here to commemorate…that history is emotional, spiritual, it’s deep seated connection between our two countries and we thank you for enabling us to make this visit.

“And our friendship will not only endure because of our history but because of our future and values that we have of eradication of diseases and alleviation of poverty and promoting democratic principles”.

For his part, Ghana’s speaker of Parliament, Aaron Mike Oquaye courted the US support for the construction of a Parliamentary library in Ghana just like the one in the US congress.

Proposing the toast at a dinner, Prof Oquaye was optimistic that the library will enhance and enrich debates of MPs in Ghana.
