Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition in collaboration with Local Accountability Network holds Annual Accountability Forum

Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition in collaboration with Open Society Initiative West Africa through Local Accountability Network (LANET) on Thursday, 6th December, 2018 held Annual Accountability Forum at Mampong – Kofiase in the Mampong Municipal of the Ashanti Region on implementation status of the composite Action plan/ Budget of Mampong Municipal Assembly.

The purpose of the forum, according the Founder of Strategic Way Policy and Economic Development Centre (SWEDEC), Mr. Oxford Osei Bonsu was to deepen grassroots Accountability systems that will foster good governance and Local Economic Development.

The forum was well attended by MMDAs staff, CSOs, Traditional leaders, Assembly Members, Unit committee members and the Media.

Municipal Assembly planning Officer, Mr Samuel Luis Dankwa presented to the participants the implementation statues of 2018 annual action plan with projects that have been implemented in the Municipality.

The budget officer Mr, Louis Osei Owusu explained to the audience that the total revenues the Municipal Assembly received, both the Internal Generated Funds, District Development Funds and the Urban grants, with their matching projects implemented in the Municipality.

Mr. Louis Osei Owusu was excited that in 2016 the Assembly exceeded the budgeted property rate from ₵6,117,860 Ghana Cedis to ₵7,587,734 Ghana Cedis.

 

REPORT ON ANNUAL ACCOUNTABILITY FORUM ORGANIZED IN KOFIASE, MAMPONG

BACKGROUND

On the 6th of December 2018, Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, and OSIWA through Local Accountability Network (LANET) has held Annual Accountability Forum on implementation status of the composite Action plan/ Budget of Mampong Municipal Assembly.

The forum was well attended by MMDAs staff, CSOs, Traditional leaders, Assembly members, Unit committee members and the Media.

The purpose of the forum as iterated by Mr. Oxford Osei Bonsu (Founder, SWEDEC) was to deepen grassroots Accountability systems that will foster good governance and Local Economic Development. Mr Samuel Luis Dankwa, Municipal Assembly planning Officer presented to the participants the implementation statues of 2018 annual action plan with projects that have been implemented in the Municipality.

Some of participants who had the opportunity to speak also expressed their appreciation to the organizers of the program. Naomi Mensah (Hairdresser) was highly delighted to have had the opportunity to participate and make contribution to issue of development. She applauded the organizers for bringing officials from the Assembly to educate them and to explain big issues about developments in the Municipality.

Nana Oduro Sarfo, (Traditional Leader) promised to take the initiative to further disseminate the information to Churches, Mosques and the entire community to understand the state of affairs in the Municipality. He again emphasized that, the Traditional Authorities will use the community Information Center at least twice a year to educate the masses on the need to pay their market tolls and property rate to bring about development in their Locality.

The GACC and OSIWA through LANET assured Kofiase community that, there will be several of such interaction through quarterly radio program to facilitate citizen engagement and participation.
