GFA ban Nsoatreman home venue, open police investigation into violent incident

GFA ban Nsoatreman home venue

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned the Nana Koromansah II Park, the home venue of Nsoatreman F.C following a violent clash during their game against Asante Kotoko.

The GFA invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations to ban the park, prioritizing safety until the case is resolved.

As part of the measures, the GFA have initiated an investigation into the violent incident, tasking DCOP Lydia Donkor and the FA Prosecutors to conduct a thorough probe.

“The Executive Committee of the GFA has, with immediate effect, invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, banning the use of the Nsoatreman FC home venue until further notice. This action ensures the safety of all stakeholders while investigations proceed.

“Furthermore, the GFA has tasked the Security Committee, led by DCOP Lydia Donkor and the FA Prosecutors, to gather evidence, including match reports and relevant documentation, to present to the FA’s Disciplinary Committee. The GFA has also engaged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a full-scale investigation into the incident and bring perpetrators to justice,” the GFA said in a statement.

A passionate Kotoko supporter, Yaw Frimpong also known as Pooley, was fatally stabbed during a melee at the match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman in Nsoatre, Bono Region, on January 2, 2024.

Multiple reports suggest he was stabbed five times and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
