Fumso youth nab galamsey operators, hands them over to Police

Youth of Fumso in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region have apprehended two individuals involved in galamsey operations.

The suspects, along with their mining equipment, were handed over to the Police by the youth.

The local community has been severely affected by the destructive impact of galamsey on their environment, particularly the contamination of two vital water bodies – River Fum and Prakum.

These rivers, which are essential sources of water for the residents, have been polluted due to the reckless activities of the illegal miners.

The youth, alarmed by the environmental damage and its consequences for their community, decided to take matters into their own hands.

Meanwhile, a taskforce has been introduced as part of the anti-galamsey campaign launched in the area to protect their natural resources and restore the integrity of their environment.

The equipment seized from the suspects is expected to aid the Police in their investigation and subsequent legal actions.
