An 18-year-old Fulani herdsman, Umaru Abdulai, has been arrested by the Gomoa Dominase District Police Command for allegedly stealing 20 cows, valued at GHC200,000, at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The suspect and his accomplices are accused of stealing the cows from various individuals in the Gomoa Dominase enclave and selling them to butchers at Awutu Bawjiase, using some of the proceeds to purchase cows from the northern region.

One of the victims, speaking on behalf of the others in an interview with Kasapa News’ Yaw Boagyan, said the suspect and his accomplices would typically visit the onion market during the day, ostensibly to buy goods, but their real intention was to scout the cows and identify the larger ones.

Umar Inusah stated that the suspect would then return at night to steal the cows they had identified and sell them to butchers.

He mentioned that a farmer, who witnessed their daily operations, informed a police officer residing in his house, leading to the arrest of the suspect, while his accomplices are still at large.

The suspect is currently assisting with the police investigation at the Gomoa Dominase police station.

Meanwhile, Umar Inusah expressed that the Fulani herdsmen are causing disturbances for the onion sellers at Gomoa Dominase. He has called on the government to intervene, warning that if no action is taken, the locals might take the law into their own hands to protect their livestock.
