President John Dramani Mahama, by the powers vested in him, has appointed 8 experts with extensive knowledge in the fields of law and governance to lead the implementation of the Constitutional Review process.

Each of these individuals brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the committee, contributing their learned skills and experience.

Here is a brief profile of the committee members;

1. Prof. H Kwasi Prempeh

Leading the charge as the Chairman is Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh who is a lawyer, educationist, and the current executive director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana).

He pursued his education at the University of Ghana, where he graduated with a B.Sc. in Administration. He then went to Baylor University, earning a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and later attended Yale Law School.

Prof. Prempeh has worked with several reputable law firms including an associate at O’Melveny & Myers LLP and later Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton in Washington, D.C. In 1998, he was appointed as a board member of the newly established Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and later served as the Director of Legal Policy and Governance from 2001 to 2003.

He was a professor at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey, and a visiting professor at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra.

2. Justice Sophia Adinyirah

Sophia Ophelia Adjeibea Adinyirah is a retired justice of the Supreme Court. She is a member of the International Association of Women Judges and chairs the National Multisectoral Committee on Child Protection.

Justice Adinyirah is also a member of the General Legal Council. She has served as an Assistant State Attorney, Principal State Attorney, and a High Court judge, and was later promoted to the Appeals Court bench.

She also served as a Judge of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal from July 2009 to June 2016, sitting in New York and Geneva.

3. Prof. Kwame Karikari

The veteran journalist is a Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication. He is the Dean of Communications Studies at the Wisconsin University in Ghana.

He served as the Executive Director of the Media Foundation West Africa (MFWA). He was educated at the City College of New York and Columbia University in New York.

4. Mrs. Charlotte Osei

Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei is a lawyer and the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, becoming the first female to serve in the office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. She is the UN International Elections Commissioner.

Her career portfolio includes serving as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana, working as a lawyer for Laryea Company, serving as a Senior Legal Officer at the Ghana Commercial Bank, and acting as the General Counsel for Unibank Ghana.

5. Dr. Godwin Djokoto

He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law where he teaches Immovable Property Law, Banking Law, Equity and Succession, Contract Law, and Law of the Sea (in Public International Law).

He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada, and also holds a Bachelor of Laws(LL.B) degree from the University of Ghana.

6. Ibrahim Tanko Amidu

The governance expert boasts 23 years of working experience facilitating social development processes at community, national, and international levels.

7. Dr. Esi Ansah

Dr. Esi Ansah is a founding partner and the CEO of Axis Human Capital Ltd and a professor at Ashesi University.

She earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology, International Affairs, and French from Florida State University, graduating with three Bachelor’s degrees in three years cum laude (with honors).

She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and a Master of Science degree in Public Service Management from DePaul University in Chicago. She holds a PhD in Public Administration from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

8. Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya

The legal expert has specialized knowledge as an oil and gas consultant, with skills in Legal Writing, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), Corporate Governance, Appeals, and International Law. She is a strong legal professional with a PhD in Law from the University of Aberdeen.
