Police killing: Joint Police-Military deplored to Zongos

A joint police and military personnel have been deplored to all Zongo communities in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi to avert any reprisal attacks.

This comes after youth in one of the Zongo communities clashed with the police over the killing of seven of their kinsmen.

The seven victims were gunned down Tuesday afternoon, by a team of policemen from the Ashanti Regional Police SWAT Unit at Poano near Anhwiakwanta on the Kumasi-Obuasi road.

The police alleged the deceased persons were suspected armed robbers who opened fire on them, an allegation the community members have been quick to dispute.

The angry youth wants the police to take responsibility for killing “innocent” persons and also be made to face justice.

But speaking on Adom News Thursday, Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah appealed for calm while the police do further investigations.

In the interim, he said they have deplored police and military to the area to ensure law and order in the area.

Hon. Osei Mensah noted that, they will meet the leadership of the Zongo communities to restrain their youth as they work to resolve the matter.

He assured the police are working assiduously to solve the mystery surrounding the killing of the seven suspected armed robbers.
