Fishermen jubilate in town after 14-day quarantine
About 50 fishermen who were put under mandatory quarantine for coronavirus took to the streets of Moree in the Central Region amid singing and dancing after being declared virus-free.
The fishermen had been quarantined at the Moree Senior High and Technical School after returning from fishing exploration in Ivory Coast.
Tests performed on all those who have completed the 14-day quarantine came out negative.
Though a majority of them are still in quarantine, those who completed their session were full of joy.
Chief Fisherman at Moree Nana Kwagya told TV3’s Thomas Cann on Saturday that the fishermen have been happy with the treatment received while in quarantine as some requested a further two-week extension.
Nana Kwagya disclosed that the fishermen said they were happy with the three-square meals served them.
Central Region has so far recorded 13 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
The first case in the Region was recorded on Wednesday, April 8. It was a 57-year-old man who had returned from the UK the previous month.
The Deputy Director of the Ghana Health Service in the Central Region, Dr Kwabena Sarpong, said almost 700 contacts have been traced in the Region and efforts to contain the virus have been intensified.
The rest of the fishermen in quarantine were found playing football at the Moree Sec-Tech School Park.
