Fire guts scrap yard at Kasoa

It took fire officers several hours to douse the inferno.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 2 am on Saturday morning, sweeping through many scrap dealership shops in the scrapyard in Kasoa.

Eyewitnesses say they heard a blast of sound in the yard as the fire swept through the yard.

It took fire officers from the Gomoa Budumburam Fire station four hours to douse the fire, with support from Weija and Winneba fire stations.

Over 100 tonnes of scraps have been destroyed by the fire, according to the scrap dealers.

Fire officers say the cause of the fire has not yet been established and urged Ghanaians to be careful when dealing with fire, especially in the dry season.

“The items damaged may be estimated at GH¢250,000,” the station officer for the Ghana National Fire Service in Gomoa Budumburam Richard Damasio, said to Citi News.
