A fire has destroyed several mattresses and damaged production equipment at a mattress factory and showroom at Sokoban-Ampayoo in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 9, 2026, at a facility identified in related reports as Quality Foam, located near Kumasi Hospital.
The blaze affected parts of the premises, destroying finished products and damaging machinery in the production area. The full extent of the losses was yet to be established.
Reports indicate that residents and people operating businesses in the surrounding area made efforts to contain the fire before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived.
Some residents also reportedly tried to protect property at a nearby commercial garage as the fire spread through parts of the facility.
Firefighters subsequently responded to the scene and worked to bring the blaze under control.
No casualties reported
No casualties had been reported in the available accounts of the incident.
Quality Foam director Dr Med. Samuel Asante reportedly said the factory had closed for the day and that security personnel were the only people on duty when the fire broke out.
Although the main showroom building reportedly remained largely intact, several mattresses were destroyed, while machinery used in the production process sustained damage.
The showroom was also opened during efforts to retrieve finished products and prevent further losses.
Management was expected to assess the damage and determine the repairs required before normal operations could resume fully.
Cause of the fire yet to be established
The cause of the outbreak remained unknown in the reports available after the incident.
A technical assessment and any subsequent investigation are expected to help establish what triggered the fire and the extent of the damage to the facility.
The incident has renewed attention on fire safety at factories and commercial premises, where finished goods, equipment and other materials can be exposed to significant losses during an outbreak.
The Ghana National Fire Service is responsible for responding to fire emergencies and supporting efforts to protect lives and property.
Further details regarding the cause of the fire, the financial value of the losses and the company’s plans following the incident had not been confirmed in the available reports.
