The Government of the Republic of Ghana has acceded to a request made by the Odumna Ebusua of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills for access to Asomdwe Park to remember their departed son/clansman according to customs and tradition.

In a letter dated June 21, 2024, the Chieftaincy Minister, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, responded to an earlier letter dated May 28, 2024, in which the Kyidomhemaa of the Odumna Ebusua, Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Enfiua III, made the request.

The letter reads in part: “…The Chief of Staff has granted approval to the Odumna Ebusua of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills to use Asomdwe Park on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, to perform the traditional and customary rites as requested for the 12th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony of the late President. May the departed soul of your beloved son continue to rest peacefully in the Lord’s bosom.”

According to information gathered, the family of the late President is organizing a series of events that will officially begin on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Asomdwe Park to mark what would have been the 80th birthday of the late President.

It is recalled that the late President celebrated his 68th birthday on Saturday, July 21, 2012, before his still inexplicable, mysterious death on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 23, 2024, there will be a cultural gathering at Asomdwe Park before the main event starts at dawn on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

According to the family, the final event will take place on August 10, 2024, which will mark 12 years since the burial of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills, who was laid to rest on August 10, 2012.

The family continues to remain grateful to the Government of Ghana for helping to keep the legacy of their late illustrious son and clansman alive.

The general public is invited to join the family in gathering and celebrating the late President in a very cordial and convivial atmosphere.

Nana Enifua III, Kyidomhemaa of the Odumna Ebusua, Ekumfi Traditional Area, and Ebusuapanyin Kobina Biney, Head of the Odumna Family, are leading their people to converge and celebrate the memory of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills, who, according to all available records, hailed from Ekumfi Otuam—his maternal lineage.
