Multi-award-winning Nigerian hip-hop singer Olamide Gbenga Adedeji also known as Baddo is a significant player in Nigeria’s rap industry.

Several people have admired him for how far he has gone and how well he persisted because of his success story.

Olamide is acknowledged as one of the most influential rappers in the Nigerian music industry, so we’ve compiled a list of five things any music fan should know about the superstar.

Five facts about Olamide

1. Age

Olamide Gbenga Adedeji was born on March 15, 1989 in Bariga, Lagos State. He is the second child of his father, Pa Adedeji and mother Ronke Osisanya Adedeji, his second wife.

Olamide has two siblings; TemmyGold and Eniola Olamilekan (who is also known as DJ Enimoney)

2. He studied mass communication

The YBNL boss, Olamide attended Tai Solarin University in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, where he majored in mass communication.

3. Emergence of his YBNL label

Olamide adopted the nickname ‘Yahoo Boy No Laptop’ and founded his own record label YBNL under which he released his second studio album, also titled ‘YBNL’ in 2012. Baddo had taken a big gamble with this, and it had finally paid off.

Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Fireboy DML, Asake, Viktor, and other well-known talents in the music industry up until this point have all released music on the YBNL label, which has now become a household name.

4. First Nigerian act to sign with Ciroc

Olamide is noted as the first Nigerian artist to sign an ambassadorial deal with the alcoholic beverage Ciroc on July 13, 2013.

He joined elite performers like DJ Khaled and Rick Ross to represent the best brand.

5. He is perceived to be arrogant

Some could perceive Olamide as an arrogant rapper. This is partly attributable to his hard-hitting lyrics, which typically do not go down so well with other performers.
For instance, he claims in his single ‘Ghost Mode’ a collaboration with Phyno, that despite other musicians’ much greater longevity in the music industry, he has accomplished more than they have.

The singer has now retired. On February 5, 2022, Olamide hinted at retirement after the release of his 12th studio album.

He is now modeling and signing up-and-coming Nigerian artists on his YBNL label of which he has produced Nigeria’s fast-rising singer Asake.
