Fabewoso: Adjena SHS headmistress, bursar allegedly blow PTA cash meant for kitchen [photos]

The headmistress and bursar of Adjena Senior Technical School at Akosombo in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern region have been accused of squandering monies of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

The school’s Chairman of PTA, Dr Nana Acheampong Kwakye on Adom FM’s anti-corruption show, Fabewoso, Monday alleged the duo, over the past one year, have misappropriated GH¢100,000 of the school’s PTA funds.

What is even worrying, he noted, is that monies meant for the construction of a modern kitchen for the school have also been squandered.

“The kitchen where food is prepared for the children is an eyesore because aside from the dilapidated structure, it is also close to a public toilet and when it rains, disaster. As a medical doctor, I’m worried” the PTA Chairman bemoaned.

Dr Kwakye said when he confronted the school’s bursar to render accounts, he claimed part of the monies was used to pay teachers and refurbish the headmistress’ bungalow.

He wondered why the kitchen for which the monies were collected from parents was not a priority for the school’s authorities.

As an immediate measure, Dr Kwakye said they have changed the signatories to the PTA bank account and also cut the sod for the construction of a new kitchen for the school.

In a rebuttal, the bursar of the school, Seth Asiedu said they accounted for all the things they used the monies for.

He maintained that allegations of misappropriation of funds are borne out of malice.

Mr Asiedu added that both the past and current PTA Chairmen have been briefed on the balance in the PTA accounts.
