We Are Not Deterred To Lose November Pay – CETAG Tells Government
Members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) say they will not be deterred by the government decision not to pay them their November salaries due to their indefinite strike.
According to them, they are on the right side of the law and they were anticipated that they will get to a situation like this and they are very well fortified, positioned and this cannot coerce them into submission.
“Let me state in categorically that, Alexander Pope said ‘Drink deep, or taste not’ looking at the kind of injustice we have suffered all this while and after this action the government through the ministry of education has decided not to validate our salaries in November, this cannot coerce us into submission” CETAG President, Prince Obeng – Hemmah told Anokye Elvis of thepressradio.com on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
The ministry of education has ordered all principals of colleges of education not to validate salaries of tutors over their decision to declare an indefinite strike.
The tutors have been on strike for almost three weeks demanding market premium.
They are also demanding book and research allowance on the same scale with their colleagues in other comparable institutions.
The teachers threatened to take legal action to compel managers of the various colleges of education to shut down the schools if their strike reaches the 21-day mark.
But the Spokesperson of the Education ministry Ekow Vincent Asefuah said the teachers will not be paid as a long as they stay away from the classrooms.
“The strike action is illegal because there has been an engagement process with them. So it is almost unconscionable for us the education ministry, labour ministry and themselves to see them declare strike.
Meanwhile, Prince Obeng – Hemang said the decision of the government will not compel them to call off their indefinite strike until their concerns are addressed.
“This is just the beginning, in every situation like this people have to sacrifice and everybody knows this is kind of sacrifices we have to, interestingly, This will strengthen us and led to action that the government will regret” he stated.
