Energy minister John Jinapor to inaugurate technical committee for ECG privatisation plan
The newly appointed Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor is set to inaugurate a technical committee on Friday January 24, 2025 to develop a comprehensive plan for the privatisation of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The committee, comprising energy experts and stakeholders, will be tasked with outlining strategies to transition ECG into private sector management while ensuring improved efficiency and service delivery.
The move forms part of John Mahama government’s broader efforts to address challenges in Ghana’s energy sector, including financial losses and inefficiencies in power distribution.
During his ministerial vetting, the Energy Minister emphasised the importance of transparency and stakeholder engagement throughout the privatisation process.
He specifically mentioned that the process must be conducted in the interests of both consumers and employees of the state-owned entity.
