Members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in the Manhyia South constituency of the Ashanti region have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The defectors, numbering 350, announced their defection at Ashanti New Town, in the constituency, on Thursday, December 2, 2020.

The Manhyia South constituency chairman for the NDP, Benjamin Boadu Amankwah, addressing the media said “we the executives and members of the NDP have all resigned and joined the NPP,”

According to the chairman, their decision was based on good policies implemented by the ruling party NPP that have improved the socio-economic aspects of their lives, specially the Free SHS Policy.

“Apart from visionary President Nana Akufo Addo, no leader in this country has lived up to campaign promises made. We are enjoying free secondary education, free water and electricity, not to talk about the NABCO, which most of us have benefited. What else do we need again? All we need is to join the elephant fraternity, proclaim its good works and vote for it,” he said.

He added that, “choosing National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have been political suicidal, considering the weak leadership and corrupt qualities exhibited by their flag bearer John Mahama.”

“We have seen the good and quality leadership of the MP for the Manhyia South constituency, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and we believe that giving our votes to such hardworking MP will be the wisest decision,” he emphasized.

“Nominated NDP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South constituency, Kwame Antwi Boasiako, did not file at the Electoral Commission (EC), an indication not to contest Hon. NAPO for the seat, but rather to support him to maintain the seat,” he explained.

Manhyia South constituency organizer for the NPP, Hon Alhassan Abouba, warmly welcomed them into the elephant fraternity, and symbolically gave them NPP shirts, which they wore.

“I am delighted to warmly welcome you all to the elephant family. It’s a great joy that you have seen the great leaderships of Nana Akufo Addo and Hon Matthew Opoku Prempeh. Let’s all work tirelessly together to amass more votes to ensure emphatic victory, come December 7, 2020,” he charged the defectors.
