Efia Odo responds to Backlash over comments on Effeminacy and Homosexuality

Popular Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has found herself at the center of a heated online debate following her remarks about effeminate men and societal attitudes toward homosexuality.

The controversy erupted after a video from the recent Porial’s Pitch Fair went viral, showing an attendee expressing concern over the number of effeminate young men present at the event. In response, Efia Odo took to her social media platforms to question why the presence of such men provokes strong reactions.

“It’s always what people are not saying that is louder than what they are saying,” she wrote. “Why does seeing a man who behaves feminine trigger you? Why is your attention so much on men and not women? Are you attracted to that, so you’re masking it with ‘hate’?”

Her comments sparked widespread discussion and criticism, with some netizens accusing her of endorsing the actions of certain influencers allegedly involved in queer sexual activity. In a swift and blunt response, Efia Odo challenged the hypocrisy of her critics.

“Should you also be lashed for masturbating, having sex before marriage, lying, or stealing?” she asked. “Why are you concerned about another person’s trumu? Is it your trumu?”

She argued that people should focus on their own actions rather than judging others, emphasizing that self-reflection is more important than condemnation.

Quoting scripture, she added:
“The Bible speaks against many things, including homosexuality. Why is your main focus on homosexuals? Is it because inherently you are attracted to what you’re afraid of? The Bible says our righteousness is not received through the works of the law, but by faith in Christ. Your righteousness by the law is as a filthy rag!”

Efia Odo’s statements have reignited ongoing national conversations about morality, religion, and LGBTQ+ issues in Ghana, drawing both support and criticism across social media platforms.
