EC official shot at Damongo

An Electoral Commission (EC) official is battling for his life at the emergency unit of the Saint Anne Hospital in Damongo, Savannah Region.

Joy News’ Isaac Nonya reported that the victim, whose name has been withheld, sustained gunshot injuries to his back amid chaotic scenes at the Damongo Collation Centre.

Angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had stormed the centre in response to the alleged delay in the declaration of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election results.

The irate youth had earlier vandalized the EC’s Municipal office, setting it ablaze.

Several election devices and materials were destroyed, and some results from the constituency had not yet been collated.

The Military has since taken control of the town to restore calm and order.
