Dumelo details how Lydia Alhassan ‘smartly’ distributed food to voters during Special Voting exercise

John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has detailed the strategy adopted by his competitor, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party, during the Special Voting exercise at the Legon Police Station polling centre on Monday, December 2, 2024.

John Dumelo maintains that Lydia Alhassan and her team distributed rice to the voters and outlined the modus operandi used by the incumbent MP.

He stated that while Lydia Alhassan, in his view, pretended to be talking to the voters in the queue, she was instructing her team to distribute the food packages to them.

On why he could not report the incident to the police officers present at the polling centre, John Dumelo stated that the distribution happened so quickly that by the time his attention was drawn, they had almost finished serving the voters who had queued up to vote.

“Her people brought the things, and she was in the queue instructing her people to distribute the things to each and every voter. Each voter was told to vote for Lydia and Bawumia. That’s what she and her people were telling the people. She did it so smartly. What she did was that she was just walking around and directing her people to share it,” he told Citi FM.

Meanwhile, Lydia Alhassan has denied being present at the food-sharing incident, insisting that she did no such thing.

According to the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate, she has no idea about the allegations levelled against her.

“I wasn’t here. I don’t know if you saw me here. I have been here since before 6 am, and I left a few minutes ago. I don’t know what you are talking about. I am yet to find out from them what happened,” she told journalists.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has announced that it is investigating the alleged incident at the Legon Police Station polling center, where it is alleged that the Member of Parliament for the area, Lydia Alhassan, distributed meals to voters during the special voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.
