Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh hasn’t resigned as running mate – Spokesperson debunks claims

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has not resigned as Running Mate to New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The immediate past Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also called NAPO, was officially unveiled as Running Mate in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Following his unveiling, NAPO has been visiting traditional leaders and will soon embark on a nationwide campaign tour to canvass Ghanaians for their votes.

However, a press statement has gone viral on social media indicating that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh had forwarded a resignation letter and stepped down as Running Mate, apparently resulting from his public gaffe regarding Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

But the Spokesperson for Dr. Opoku Prempeh, Fiifi Boafo, has refuted the claims.

“It is rather his job as Energy Minister that he has resigned from, but it is never true that he has stepped down as a Running Mate,” he said in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show.
