Dormaahene did not err in Kofi Adomah’s shooting incident, according to custom – CPP 2024 flagbearer

The 2024 Convention Peoples Party (CPP) flagbearer, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, has weighed in on the ongoing conversations surrounding Ghanaian media personality, Kofi Adomah’s eye shooting incident.
Kofi Adomah accused the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, of failing to support him after he sustained a near-fatal eye injury during a ceremony he covered in his jurisdiction.
The broadcaster lamented that since the incident, the chief has neither sent a message nor reached out to offer his condolences.
While the journalist’s family has criticised the Dormaahene for neglect, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah holds a different view.
Addressing the media on Thursday, March 20, 2025, she stated that she had personally investigated the matter and discovered that the Dormaahene had indeed taken the necessary steps as required of him.
However, she said these actions may not have been publicly announced, which likely contributed to the outburst.
“Let me put this on record. I’m speaking as someone from Dormaa, I’m speaking as someone who has been a traditional ruler, and I’m speaking also because I have investigated the matter and I can say with authority that the Dormaahene did exactly what was supposed to have been done. Every traditional ruler will understand what I’m saying. He did everything; he took all the steps. But in life, and that is why we all say, even the murderer must have a day in court no matter what.
“Because until you hear somebody’s version, you might always condemn the person, only to realise that the person with the knife standing there was not even the person who committed the murder but was actually trying to save the person, and something happened,” she said.
Offering a clearer perspective, she detailed the Dormaahene’s approach to handling the situation, explaining how he took the necessary steps to address the matter in a manner befitting a traditional ruler.
“This is not what happened. Actually, when the case happened… he consulted the person and found out what had happened. Then he sent someone, like I said, his right-hand person, who was also the chairperson of that committee, that did the festival committee. He did everything. So, when we say chair, it means that all the monies that were collected and everything — they still have bills to pay.
“So, he sent him to go and investigate and come and give him the report. That’s the way chiefs do things. They get the report, just like the president — if something happens and he has to walk in there, security must be there to make sure it is safe for him to come. These are things that happen. So, he sent the gentleman, who is also one of the top chiefs in the Dormaaa Traditional Council, outside of being his personal aide who also helps in everything. He went there, actually went and met the family, and came back to tell him what happened. He was on his way travelling, which had already been scheduled,” she explained.
She then added that “He knew everything would go on as planned. There was some payment that needed to be made. He told the gentleman, ‘Just make sure—I’m not around—so get the referral slip and then effect the payment from the council. Since it was the committee, use what had been collected.’ So, he had already given that instruction and was following up until he saw several calls by 4:00 am on his phone, only to be told about a sudden situation. Because Dormaahene has not mentioned it, I wouldn’t want to mention it here, not even his name,” she added.
