‘Does a gospel artiste twerk online? Is your husband happy with you? – Serwaa Amihere asks Empress Gifty

Serwaa Amihere has probed Empress Gifty about her bold presence on social media, questioning her approach as a gospel singer.

Empress Gifty, known for her free-spirited style, often breaks the stereotypes of traditional gospel musicians, dressing in a way that some might consider more aligned with secular artistes.

But in Serwaa’s recent interview with the gospel singer, she tackled her over her fashion choices include wearing tight-fitting clothes, and asked why she won’t adhere to a more modest style.

Empress Gifty responded, “Are gospel musicians supposed to dress in a certain way?”

Serwaa countered, noting that many gospel artistes have over the years maintained modesty in their appearance.

Empress Gifty replied, “That’s them. I don’t buy the clothes, shoes, and bags I wear. I work with brands that ensure I look good.”

Serwaa then inquired whether Empress Gifty’s husband is comfortable with the manner she portrays herself on social media.

Empress Gifty challenged the notion, asking, “You keep saying carry. What do you mean by ‘carry’? We have different types of ministries and functions. If I’m not a prophet, why should I act like one?”

Serwaa also pointed out that she had seen Empress Gifty twerking on social media and questioned why a gospel musician would engage in such behaviour.

The gospel minister responded, “What is twerking? I don’t recall twerking on social media. If you see only my bum while I’m walking, then that’s your problem, you’ve sinned.”

She added, “Even if you see me dancing online, what song was I dancing to? Is it gospel or secular music? If it’s gospel music, then what is their problem? I don’t want anyone to put me in a box. I am Empress Gifty.
